Change your account settings


View or edit your BlackBerry ID

Your BBM contacts list is backed up based on your BlackBerry ID. You can sign in with only one BlackBerry ID. If you want to sign in with a different BlackBerry ID, you can reinstall BBM.

  1. Tap  .
  2. Scroll down to Settings and tap Account.
  3. Tap your BlackBerry ID and, if necessary, enter your BlackBerry ID password.
  4. Do any of the following:
    • To change your first name, last name, settings for receiving product and services updates, the email address or phone number that you use as your BlackBerry ID, tap Edit Account Information.
    • To change your password, tap Change Password.
    • To change your password recovery question and answer, tap Change Recovery Question
  5. If you change your email address, you receive a confirmation email message to confirm your new BlackBerry ID. To make it easier to reset your password, you should confirm your BlackBerry ID. If you change your phone number, you can receive a text message to verify your new BlackBerry ID.

When changing your email address or phone number, you can't use an email address or phone number that's already used for another BlackBerry ID.

Edit your BlackBerry ID information on a computer

Alternatively, you can edit your BBID information on the computer instead of your device:

  1. On a computer, visit www.blackberry.com/blackberryid.
  2. Click Sign In.
  3. Enter your username and password.
  4. Click Sign In.
  5. Click Account Details.
  6. Next to the info that you want to change, click Edit.
  7. After you change info using your computer, you might be required to re-enter your BlackBerry ID username and password on your device.

Change your BlackBerry ID phone number or email

If you used your phone number as your BlackBerry ID, be sure to change your BlackBerry ID immediately after switching to a new phone number. If you don't change your BlackBerry ID to your new phone number, you might lose access to your BBM account if your old phone number is reassigned to someone else by your service provider.

Tip: To help maintain access to your BBM account, set a password recovery question and answer.

  1. Tap   .
  2. Scroll down to Settings and tap Account.
  3. Tap your BlackBerry ID and, if necessary, enter your BlackBerry ID password.
  4. Tap Edit Account Information.
  5. Type your new phone number or email.
  6. Tap Save.
  7. After you change your phone number, you can receive a text message or email to verify your new BlackBerry ID.

Reset your BBM password or BlackBerry ID password

Before you begin: Verify that the email address or phone number that you typed in BBM is correct. If you can't sign in to BBM, verify that the email address or phone number is the one you use as your BlackBerry ID.

You can reset your password if you confirmed your BlackBerry ID email address, or if you have a password recovery answer.

  1. In BBM, beside Already on BBM, tap Sign In.
  2. Tap Forgot password.
  3. Do any of the following:
    • If you confirmed the email address that you use as your BlackBerry ID, complete the instructions from the password reset email message you receive.
    • If necessary, enter your password recovery answer. Complete the instructions on the screen to set a new password.

Otherwise, to reset your password on a computer, visit www.blackberry.com/blackberryid. Click Reset your password and complete the instructions on the screen. Once you have completed the steps above, you will receive a password reset email. If you complete the steps to reset your password on a computer, the password reset email can only be viewed on a computer and isn't delivered to your device. If you follow the steps to reset your password on your device, the password reset email will be delivered to your device. Complete the instructions in the email to reset your BlackBerry ID password.

I can't reset my password / I want to delete my BBID account

If you can't sign in to BBM and you can't reset your BlackBerry ID password, you can choose to reset your BlackBerry ID.

Warning: Any data that is associated with your BlackBerry ID, including your BBM contacts and BBM Shop purchases, is deleted when you reset your account.

If you delete your BBID account, you can never restore it.

  1. Tap  .
  2. Scroll down to Settings.
  3. Tap Account.
  4. Tap your BlackBerry ID.
  5. Tap Forgot password and enter the verification code to continue.
  6. Tap Delete BlackBerry ID Account.
  7. In BBM, on the Create Account screen, sign up for BBM using the same email address or phone number. Tap Create Account.
